Ready for a fertility conversation where nothing gets left out?

Welcome to The Well Conceived Podcast.

If you've ever walked out of a fertility appointment feeling more confused than when you walked in, this podcast is for you.

I'm Natalie Pickering, naturopath and fertility specialist with nearly 30 years of clinical experience and I made The Well Conceived Podcast because the standard fertility conversation has a big gap in it, and that gap is costing women time, money, and hope.

Each week I bring you clear, evidence-based education on the things that actually move the needle: egg quality, hormonal patterns, immune health, lining, nervous system regulation, and how to navigate IVF with your eyes open. We go into the science, but we keep it grounded and relatable.

Why Smart Women Don't Waste Time on Mediocre Fertility Advice

April 04, 20243 min read

Women deserve access to evidence-based strategies that address the root causes of infertility, not just band-aid solutions that mask the symptoms. - Natalie Pickering

Women are increasingly taking charge of their health and making informed decisions about their bodies. Yet, when it comes to fertility, many of us are still left feeling frustrated and unsupported by the limited advice offered by our doctors.

Picture this: a successful woman, ambitious in her career and life goals, decides she's ready to start a family. Excited and optimistic, she schedules an appointment with her doctor to discuss her plans. However, instead of receiving personalized guidance tailored to her unique needs, she's met with generic recommendations and a one-size-fits-all approach.

This scenario is all too common, and it begs the question: why are smart, empowered women settling for mediocre fertility advice?

The truth is, fertility is a complex and multifaceted aspect of women's health that requires a holistic approach. Yet, many healthcare providers don't recognize this, opting instead for quick fixes and surface-level solutions. I see this over and over amongst the women who eventually join my program or se me in clinic.

And, it makes me feel really frustrated at the wasted time, money and emotional resources.

Here's the thing: women deserve better.

They deserve access to evidence-based strategies that address the root causes of infertility, not just band-aid solutions that mask the symptoms.

So, what can be done to bridge this gap?

First and foremost, we need to advocate for ourselves and demand the quality of care we deserve. This means asking questions, seeking second opinions, and refusing to settle for anything less than the best.

Excellent fertility support should include -

  1. Personalized Guidance: By seeking out personalized advice, women can receive recommendations tailored to their unique health history, lifestyle, and fertility goals. This individualized approach increases the likelihood of success and ensures that efforts are focused on strategies that are relevant and effective for their specific needs.

  1. Evidence-Based Strategies: Prioritizing evidence-based strategies means that women can trust the advice they receive is backed by scientific research and clinical experience. This reduces the risk of falling for misinformation or ineffective treatments, empowering women to make informed decisions about their fertility journey.

  2. A Holistic Health Approach: Recognizing the importance of holistic health and wellness means addressing all aspects of health, not just reproductive health. By prioritizing nutrition, exercise, stress management, and emotional well-being, women can optimize their overall health, which in turn can positively impact fertility outcomes.

  3. Supportive Networks: Building a supportive network provides women with access to valuable resources, encouragement, and solidarity. Navigating fertility challenges can be emotionally taxing, but having a community of healthcare providers, friends, family members, and online communities can provide much-needed support and guidance along the way.

Overall, this approach empowers women to take control of their fertility journey, and it helps us get faster results!

As you continue on your fertility journey, remember that you deserve nothing but the best. By prioritizing quality advice, personalization, evidence-based strategies, holistic health, and supportive networks, you empower yourself to make informed decisions and take meaningful action towards your fertility goals.
